This piece is a dedication to my family. Each movement represents one them, but is also focused on a particular musical element matched to their personality.
My dad is the extrovert of the group, always thinking positive and lively. I made Rhythm the central element in his movement. Syncopated, duple rhythms begin the piece until we hear the smoother triplets come in. Each rhythm grows more complex and are interweaved into each instrument until they are combined in the end resulting in an energetic finish.
A fond memory I have with my mom is hearing her sing lullabies to me when I was a young boy. With Time Signature as the main element of this piece, I wanted to portray the feeling of slowly drifting into sleep as the melody slowly morphs and becomes indistinct as the shifting time takes us into another world.
I have many inside jokes, and quirky moments with my (older) sister. I wanted to portray this silliness by use of Timbre and Colour. Exploring subtle colors, with brash interruptions and lines that come in and out of nowhere is the idea behind this weird movement.
