ABOUT ADAM ISIDTO
Adam Isidto (b.2003) is a composer, pianist and educator based in Vancouver, Canada. His music is centered on telling stories and expressing emotions through a vivid palette of timbral, textural and harmonic colors. He has written extensively for solo piano, art song, choir, chamber ensembles and film scores which have seen many public performances, studio recordings and screenings.
He is a recipient of the Ernest Wesley Sharpe, Norah Mansell and Cortland Hultberg Music scholarships for excelling in composition, and by recommendation by the composition faculty at the University of British Columbia. He won the call for score of the UBC Vox & Oriana Choirs along with Vancouver Pro Musica’s call for scores for their Sonic Boom Festival and Artemis Ensemble Fall Concert. He has enjoyed the privilege of participating in workshops held by award winning ensembles with the Standing Wave Ensemble, Turning Point Ensemble, Vancouver Chamber Choir and Nabi Vocal Ensemble where his music was professionally recorded and performed.
His music has been performed regularly by some of Vancouver’s foremost professional musicians with recent premieres by Ingrid Chiang, Liz Eccleston, Renz Adame, Katelin Coleman, Noel McRobbie and Reg Quiring, at some of the most established new music venues such as The Chan Center, The Annex, Pyatt Hall and Notional Space.
As an educator, Adam emphasizes the importance of meeting each student's individual needs and fostering their growth all throughout their musical journey. He teaches piano, theory and composition to students of various ages and learning abilities. For two years, he held a position with the UBC C4 Choral Composition Club as the Composer Meet’s Lead; there, he taught lectures on theory, choral writing, the compositional process and led members in activities while providing feedback on their original music. He is the organist and choir member with the St.Anthony of Padua Parish Youth Choir and has volunteered as a pianist at Fairhaven Homes and a teacher of the UBC Musicbox Club.
Adam is currently wrapping up his final year of undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia. There his main professors of Dorothy Chang, Keith Hamel, Jennifer Butler and Edward Top have greatly influenced his work and guided his understanding of music making.
